Gathering together for a meal has a deeper meaning than satisfying your hunger. In China, having a meal builds relationships or establishes new friendships. Curious what our favorite Chinese dishes are? We asked one of our long-term teachers what her favorite Chinese dishes are. Here is her response:
- Di San Xian: translated as “three treasures from the earth,” consists of stir-fried potatoes, aubergine/eggplant, and sweet peppers. Other ingredients may include garlic, spring onion, etc. I’ve always been told this dish is from the Northeast.

2. Dao Xiao Mian: also known as special noodles. This noodle is a specialty in Shanxi province, and the dough is formed into a square log which is shaved with a blade. I really like these noodles with the Xihongshi Jidan!

3. Xihongshi Jidan Mian: a tomato and egg dish with noodles. The tomato and egg dish on its own is a staple dish in China. You can find it anywhere…kind of like the idea of a PB&J sandwich in America. I like it with the noodles!

4. Tang Cu Li Ji: consists of sweet and sour pork and is a more formal dish.
