Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly.

[Note: The following statement from ELIC President, Tim Davis, was originally posted to the ELIC website on June 4, 2020.]

These days in America are deeply troubling. There is no shortage of heartbreaking conversations, opinions, and commentary. The tragic and senseless murders of George Floyd and others have brought an unimaginable amount of hurt and pain to all of us, but especially to our African American colleagues and friends.

We believe people bear the image of God. Therefore, we denounce the racism against African Americans that has taken place in America. We should ask with the prophet Micah, "And what does the Lord require of me?" The response is straight-forward: to "act justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with our God."

I have asked all of our global personnel to use this time as an opportunity in our relationships to begin, or continue, conversations of what it means to bear the image of God, to honor each other, and to extend dignity to one another.

We know that life in our world is not the way it was meant to be. One day there will be true justice and complete redemption. We look forward to that day! But until then, we are challenged to honor God and one another through love, grace, and mercy.

With humility and deep sincerity,
